The story of this hotel begins in 1984, when it first opened as the Dojima Hotel, a beloved symbol of sophistication in Osaka’s business scene. Known as a “social gathering place for adults”, it embodied Western elegance and became a landmark of the city’s vibrant culture.
As time passed and the facilities aged, the curtain closed on the original Dojima Hotel. Yet, from this ending came a new beginning — a redevelopment project that sought to honor its legacy while reimagining it for the modern era.
The concept behind the rebirth was clear: to blend the “Memory and Future of Dojima.” Partnering with Aloft, a lifestyle brand of Marriott International, the world’s largest hotel group, the new property now celebrates the area’s history through a contemporary lens of music, art, and technology.
Upon entering, guests are greeted by a striking auto tricycle carrying rice bales, a nod to Dojima’s past as Japan’s historic rice market. Inside, vintage maps and Edo-period artwork are reinterpreted on skateboards — merging tradition with youthful creativity. In guest rooms, wall graphics combine old and modern maps of Dojima, layered with imagery of the original Dojima Hotel’s façade, connecting guests to the neighborhood’s evolution.
Today, this renewed hotel stands as a vibrant crossroads of heritage and innovation, welcoming travelers from around the world to experience the soul of Dojima — where the echoes of the past harmonize with the rhythm of the future.
